The challenge
Energy Partners contracted HLB Photography to document the complete installation of a large industrial refrigeration plant over the course of more than a year. The primary challenge was to create compelling visual content from a slow, methodical, and highly technical process—transforming months of machinery assembly, testing, and safety protocols into a narrative that showcases both precision engineering and human effort. The project demanded the ability to capture equipment weighing 4 to 20 tons being rigged and positioned with exacting tolerances, while simultaneously documenting the skilled workers executing these critical operations. This required not only technical photography expertise but also the agility to respond to last-minute shoot scheduling, often on weekends when key rigging events occurred.
The approach
Multi-Format Documentation Strategy The project was executed across multiple visual mediums to maximize the impact and usability of the captured content. Each format served a distinct purpose in the broader visual narrative of the refrigeration plant's development. Timelapse Sequences Multiple timelapse shoots were strategically positioned as the camera moved throughout the facility, capturing the evolution of installation from different perspectives and revealing the scope of the project over compressed timeframes. Videography & Motion Extended videography documentation captured the dynamic human element—welding, grinding, and rigging operations that demonstrate the engineering expertise and physical effort required for safe installation. Drone Fly-Overs Aerial perspectives provided context for the project's scale and location, showing how the refrigeration plant integrated into the broader industrial facility landscape. Still Photography High-resolution stills captured critical moments, technical details, and milestones—providing gallery-quality imagery suitable for marketing and portfolio presentation. The Human Element While the industrial refrigeration plant is impressive in its engineering complexity, the real distinction in this project came from capturing the human dimension of the work. Equipment doesn't install itself—skilled workers execute precise, often dangerous operations that require years of expertise. By focusing on the people in action—welding, grinding, and rigging equipment weighing multiple tons—the documentation transcends typical industrial imagery. It tells the story of human capability, attention to detail, and the physical effort behind modern industrial achievement. This perspective added an entirely new dimension that resonated powerfully with Energy Partners and their stakeholders.
The result
The comprehensive documentation created by HLB Photography has become a cornerstone asset for Energy Partners' portfolio and promotional initiatives. The multi-format content—combining technical precision with compelling visual storytelling—provides the client with flexible, high-quality material suitable for a range of applications. The 13-month project demonstrates HLB Photography's capability to execute extended, complex industrial documentation requiring technical expertise, creative vision, and professional responsiveness. From the initial scoping to the final delivery of 4 terabytes of professional-grade content, the project exemplifies the standards of quality, reliability, and artistic eye that distinguish industrial photography at the highest level.
“"We used HLB Photography (Hendrik-Louis) to capture the construction development of a large industrial refrigeration plant. Hendrik-Louis recorded the project throughout with multiple timelapse shoots, videography, stills and drone fly-overs. The quality is excellent. Looking back at the footage now, I can see that Hendrik-Louis has a particular eye for capturing the people in action as they are welding, grinding and rigging the equipment that adds a whole new dimension of the human-element and the human effort instead of merely the physical material. We had a great experience working with Hendrik-Louis, his responsiveness enabled short-notice coordination to film key rigging events that often occurred over weekends. I am really proud of the material that Hendrik-Louis captured for us and would certainly recommend him for future projects like this."”
